Morning - Please be carful if getting your aircon regased. We are see Ipaces coming in where the incorrect oil has been used which has caused one car to need some new valves. We have only found the oil available from JLR at a cost of around £150 for a small bottle.

Also the aircon system needs to be put into service mode with topix cloud before it is regassed to open the valves to allow the system to be emptied and then refilled correctly

BBC news report as of 24th May 2023

The UK is set to win a battle with Spain to host a multi-billion-pound electric car battery plant in Somerset, the BBC understands

The boss of Jaguar Land Rover-owner Tata is expected to fly to London next week to finalise the deal.

Some in the car industry have described the plant as the most significant investment in UK automotive since Nissan came to Britain in the 1980s.

Tata's chairman is scheduled to meet the prime minister mid-next week.

Sources familiar with the matter say that although the deal has yet to be signed, engagement has moved from negotiations to drafting and choreography of how the landmark agreement will be presented.

Up to 9,000 jobs would be created at the Bridgwater site, close to the M5.

The UK government has acknowledged the urgent need for electric vehicle battery manufacturing in the UK to secure the future of the car industry.

The country's automotive sector employs up to 800,000 people directly and in the supply chain.

When pressed on the subject last week, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt told the BBC to "watch this space".

Tata was considering another site in Spain and the expected decision to choose Somerset will be presented as a major achievement for the UK government.

The government has been criticised for lacking a clear industrial strategy and falling behind the US and EU in attracting investment.

Last week, one of the world's biggest carmakers, Stellantis, warned it may have to close UK factories if the government does not renegotiate the Brexit deal. The firm, which owns Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat, had committed to making electric cars in the UK

but told the BBC this was under threat

           .

In the case of Tata's new plant, the UK's expected success has not been easily or cheaply won.

The government has said that while it does not recognise a figure of £500m in reported subsidies, they concede that it is in the hundreds of millions of pounds.

The giga factory would be built at the Gravity business park near Bridgwater

This would take the form of cash grants, energy subsidies and other training and research funding.

India's Tata has extensive steel interests in the UK including the Port Talbot plant in South Wales and the government will also offer around £300m to subsidise, upgrade, and decarbonise those operations.

Along with additional energy discounts, it will bring the total incentive package to Tata close to £800m.

Government sources conceded that while the two investments will not be announced at the same time, the two projects are linked.

The Somerset site's access to power, a skilled UK automotive workforce and the British heritage of Jaguar Land Rover's brands are also cited as helping the UK bid.

Although the price tag will be seen as high, the UK is reluctantly involved in an international subsidy war which has been dramatically escalated by the US Inflation Reduction Act - a piece of legislation offering $370bn (£299bn) in sweeteners to companies prepared to locate production and supply chains in the US.

The EU is preparing its own package in response.

Some industry insiders hope that the Tata battery investment will open the door to further battery investments in the UK, which currently only has one plant in operation next to Nissan's Sunderland factory, and one barely on the drawing board in Northumberland.

By contrast the EU has 35 plants open, under construction or planned.

Life with a fully electric Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar I-Pace, I have had mine for around 5 months now and I love it!

It is such a shame Jaguar did not advertise this model a lot better when it came out in 2018 as it would mean a lot less Tesla's on the roads. It is also a shame Jaguar have not updated the model as technology has advanced.

The range with normal driving is around 200 miles and compared to newer vehicles the charge rate is slow.

All this said it is the best car I have owned (well except my beloved Defender 90 300 tdi) and I have had a lot of cars in my 40 years in the motor trade.

The drive and comfort is miles ahead of the other makes of EV's (electric vehicle) I have driven, and for a family car it looks great.

Like most electric vehicle the heating system work very quickly and will clear a frozen windscreen in around 4 mins and have you warm and cosy in around 5 mins.
Yes it is the fastest car I have owned (0 - 60 in just over 4 seconds and top speed of 124 mph), however my driving licence is too important to me to use the speed but what I find most useful is the instant smooth throttle response when pulling out of a junction.

Like all JLR products it does do strange things sometimes with warning messages which come on once and never again.

The routine maintenance cost should be low,£199.00 every two years for a service, and to be honest it will only need a service every two years with a check over in between just to be safe as I do like to know I have brake pads left and the suspension bushes are still ok!

Lets hope JLR deliver vehicles of this quality with the next generation of EV's that are starting to come out.

Drilled and Grooved Brake Discs

           Why do we fit these.

It was around 2008 and I had a Range Rover TD6 which was being used a lot for towing, so I dug deep into my pockets and £700 later had Genuine Land Rover discs and pads which I then fitted. To be honest the brakes were good but they only lasted 15k m/s before new discs were needed again as the discs had worn below the minimum service thickness. The thought of spending £700 every 15k m/s or so was not pleasant.

So I decided to fit some aftermarket cross drilled and grooved discs with original specification pads. These had only recently become available from our supplier and I was working on the bases that if they lasted 10 m/s but were less than 1/3rd the price I would still be better off.

Well I had the Range Rover another 30k m/s before selling it and the brakes Discs were still in good condition and the new owner did another 20k before we had to renew them.

This is why we now fit this type of brake disc as standard when ever doing discs and pads in the workshop provided they are available for the vehicle.

The drilled and grooved discs increase braking efficiency by reducing dust, debris, water and gas on the disc. Paired with the original specification pads we are seeing customers going through 2 occasionally 3 pad changes before the discs need replacing.
